Designer Watch: Lucia Hamilton
A new piece by Lucia Hamilton
Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland, starring Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway, comes out this week—and as designers around the world are jumping on the train to Wonderland and getting inspiration from Lewis Carroll's famous tale, so is jewelry designer and Houston native Lucia Hamilton, whose hip bluGrn Design line is getting big buzz. The 35-year-old University of Houston grad—who now lives in Washington DC with her politician hubby—recently garnered a nod in the Washington Post, which featured her “Through The Looking Glass” necklace, a vintage optical lens hanging from a chain alongside three different variations of carved abalone leaves, black and white roses, pearls and crystals. Hamilton—daughter-in-law to Houston arts philanthropists Gracie and Bob Cavnar—makes each piece by hand, and Alice and crew also make appearances in new necklaces like “Who Stole the Tarts,” a sterling silver silhouette of the White Rabbit with a trumpet beside a copper cut out of Alice—and in a similar copper silhouette, “Cheshire-Cat.” “I love to take vintage pieces and incorporate them into jewelry,” she says. “I want to turn stories into necklaces.” Hamilton's designs—including bracelets, earrings and rings—start at only $42, and are available on her website blugrndesign.com, and at Sheny Design in Houston.
